Labor Day Musings
- Labor Day usually signifies the home stretch of a political campaign.
I'm really tired of politics this year. I follow it. But since the 90's the constant campaigning is tiresome. I think politics is important and I follow it closely. But I'm tiring of "the game" greatly. I'd rather debate ideas. Democrats will be elected. Republicans will be elected. But how many of those Republicans or Democrats care about the ideas they represent? Some do. But many don't.
In New Jersey, I would really like to see some major reforms against the corruption and nanny-state policies in our state. (Not to mentione better laws towards the brewing industry.) But I have little energy to pay attention to it, let alone participate in it. - Labor Day takes on a whole new meaning when you aren't a student. While in college, I looked forward to getting back to school and seeing friends. In grade school, middle school, and high school, I mourned the end of my summer.
Now, it matters little. Your car won't be deadly hot when you get out of work. That's good. You lose daylight. Not so good. I always dread the early sunset, although it never seems as bad when it arrives. However, it gets worse when you have no access to windows near your work cubicle. Fortunately, my current building at work has some windows.
I'll always love summer though. I'll always associate it with summer vacation and no school. Play wiffle ball with Chris. Biking to Jess' house. Going to Haddon Glen swim club. Ping-pong up the wazoo. Great times. But you can't go back. And I guess you wouldn't want to anyway. Well, maybe for a day or two.

Well said....the media has really made politics repulsive. 24 hour news isn't all bad, but i think there have been more minuses than pluses. I recently read a great book and it stated that when Lincoln ran for President it was considered beneath the office to campaign for themselves. Although he did anyway. My wish for politicians is for them to sop being afraid to cross party lines when they feel the otherside may be right.
As for Labor Day it's nice, but there's always a sense of melancholy to it regardless of what you do. Just like I feel that is there is some excitment to Memorial Day (although I feel that more people should remember what it's for before they start their barbecue or go to the mall). I've always been a big fan of the summer. I get tired of all seasons after a while but spring and summer I get tired of the least. There's something about remembering back to one's magical childhood summers of carefree long days. The Countrytime Lemonade commercials are good illustrating that. As for your memories, I certainly remember the days at Haddon Glen and wiffleball. (Hitting the ball into the "well" was a homerun). And of course your backyard ballpark. And don't forget our Summer of '84 Olympics at Haddon Glen....
