Cardinals Break Democratic Fillibuster; Elect Pope

Current pope has "extremist" views on abortion. Believes in "God."

Comments:
Not crazy about this choice...I agree with his view on not being swayed by modern trends on an old faith, however I feel that the Catholic Church needs to change the rules regarding letting priests marry. They need to face the facts that there's a serious shortage of priests. Now, it's not a guarantee that will totally fix the problem, i think it will help.
Also, I was hoping for a Pope along the lines of the last one in terms of age and frequent flyer miles. If i had a vote, I'd go for the Honduran guy. I don't know why they were leaning toward a short term Pope this time. But we'll see...

The thinking would be that JPII cast so long of shaddow, they needed someone who could be his own man. I believe the current pope was even an architect of Vatican II. (Traditionalist Catholics must be going nuts on that one) Plus, he won't be in as long, which will allow the next pope to have even more of a chance to be his own man. An unknown would have had no hope of that.
